Those were definitely the days! I just recently found an old Pimple Ball in my mother’s basement and it got me thinking of all the good times back then. Needless to say that Pimple Ball is safe at my house now!

I GREW UP IN THE STREETS OF PHILLY ATTENDED GRADE SCHOOL
AT CORPUS CHRISTI 28TH & ALLEGHENY AVE WENT TO ROMAN HS
LIVE IN DAYTONA BEACH IN AN APARTMENT COMPLEX JUST THE OTER
AFTERNOON MY NEIGHBOR AND MY SELF WATCHED THE KIDS HERE
RUNNING AND PLAYING IN THE PARKING LOT HE SAID TO ME THE KIDS
SHOULD FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO PLAY BECAUSE OF THE CARS IN
AND OUT WELL I RELAYED TO HIM EVERYTHING THAT EVERYONE
HAS POSTED HERE HALF BALL/ SCOOTERS / BOXBALL ECT
WAS THE WAY WE GREW UP PLAYING IN THE STREETS IT HAD
TO BE ONE OF THE BEST EDUCATIONS YOU CAN EVER ACHIVE
AND A PIMPLE BALL WHO WOULD EVER THINK A 12 CENT ITEM WOULD
HAVE SUCH AN IMPACT ON SO MANY COMMUNITIES NOT ONLY THEN
BUT TODAY 50 YEARS LATER! FANTASTIC TO READ ALL THE COMMENTS HERE TODAY A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE

You are right. We had Spaldings, which were pink, and then there was a softer version, we called pinkies. The Spaldings were much harder and hurt like hell playing punch ball or slap ball. If you whacked a soft pinky with a stick it would rupture forthwith.

Hey gang. Nobody mentioned the pinky ball. It was 5 or 10 cents more expensive than the pimple ball. It was also a superior half-ball. It’s amazing how all of our games transcended our own neighborhoods.

I used to go to Red’s every weekend. My dad would take me swimming at the public pool that used to be next to Goretti. Best hoagies ever!!
