I love reading all of these. I used to live on Marshall Street. Those days were sooo fun. We all played stick ball, step ball, roller skated, went to Karmers for ice cream, and went on 7th street for water ice. Just thinking about pimple balls brings back great memories, there was a Temple on the corner and I remember hitting our half balls against the building to see if we got a single, double, tripple, and even a home run, To much fun. I want to say hello to Irvin, Eddie, Kathleen, Kathleen, Maryanne, and all of my other friends on Marshall street, those were the days.

What was the name of the pork sandwich place at 7th and Reed Sts. (behind the grocery store) years back? Then they moved to Passyunk and Reed which is now Rita’s. They were so good!

I used to go to Red’s every weekend. My dad would take me swimming at the public pool that used to be next to Goretti. Best hoagies ever!!

I lived in South Philly from 1994-1997. We rented a row house on the corner at 2nd and Mifflin. I was in the Navy and rented the house with some shipmates. My friend and roomates Godmother owned the building. I really loved my time in South Philly. We had a few problems fitting in at first, but the neighborhood accepted us. I will always remember the soup parties and Mummers parades. I have shown my kids the place that I spent my youth and have shown them South Philly. Thank you Philly for the memories.

What a great site to write down and to read other’s SoPhil memories. I lived in quite a few places in SoPhil during my 47yrs there (I now live in California )-:)…Let’s see, I lived at 6th + Moore sts during young teens…Lived around 9th+Morris preteens…..Lived btwn 5th-6th Mountain sts and 8th-9th Mountain sts most of the rest of the years (and a few years in Drexel Hill. I can’t even begin to list all of the wonderful memories I have from all of those neighborhoods and the fabulous neighbors and friends I had in those neighborhoods so I will just say that I miss those days very much and will never, never forget them until they stick me in the ground and cover me wit dirt….lol. Even after being in California for the past 9 years I am still an avid Flyers, Eagles and Phillies fan and watch as many games as I could (I can’t stand the Lakers, 49ers and Giants (-:. Well, I vented now so, see youse guys later and take care all.

Hello there guys. Thanks for writing about Philly and the good old days. I lived in North Philly in 1969 I remember enjoying two types of Hoagies. One was called just a “Hoagie”. The other was a steak Hoagie. If memory serves me right, neither sandwich as what today are called Hoagies. Does anyone remember those days or any of these sandwiches and if so, can you tell me if my memory is right or am I just confused?

I went to St. Mary’s @ 7th & Christian. Does anybody remember “Mushie’s” across from school? We used to buy “loosies”(cigarettes) 2 for quarter.I have the best memories and funny stories from my days at St.Mary’s.Either you went to St. Mary’s or St. Paul’s

I often reminiss about growing in South Philadelphia 2nd and Mifflin St. I loved everything about being a kid there it just seemed so magical, from playing stickball at Furness to going to school at Sacred Heart. We moved to Fla. when I was in 6th grade(1968), and I always find myself gong back to the old neighborhood whenever I get a chance. I take my wife and children and now Grand children and talk about the magical place I grew up.
